Sometimes the vacuum cleaner does not turn on or stop working after a few minutes of work. There are several causes to happen such a problem. Please check out the following.

Power Supply Interruption

Although the problem sounds simple, the device may be out of power supply for many reasons. You must be sure that the device is connected with a power source that is not faulty. Some of the vacuum models have a power indicator light that is helpful for power information. Sometimes the machine does not start due to a faulty On/Off switch. It is ideal to replace the faulty switch, because it may cause an accident.

The damaged Power Supply Cord

The machine may be out of power due to a damaged power supply cord. Check for any split on the cord or the cord pin is not damaged. If this is the case, it is better to replace the cord with a new one.

Activated Thermal Cutoff

The activated thermal cutoff is an important safety device to stop the vacuum cleaner. The formation of blockages inside the vacuum head or filter may result in the automatic cut-out of the vacuum.

Find out the blockage and remove it clearly for the smooth performance of the vacuum. Also, keep the machine switched off while cooling. The machined needs to be cooled for the recommended time mentioned in the User Guide.

Motor Fault Detection

The dead or faulty motor is a cause the vacuum stop working. The motor needs to run the device smoothly for its proper performance. But, there are several causes to burn the motor which include overuses of the machine, force the machine to run with blockages, the filter is not timely cleaned, etc.

If the motor is a problem, first try to contact the manufacturer’s helpline. If the device expires the warranty period, consult with an experienced mechanic.

2. Bad Smell from Vacuum Cleaner

There are several reasons for your vacuum cleaner’s spread of smell. You can avoid this annoying smell by following some maintenance.

Smell From Bag or Dust Cup

A bad smell may come if the container, either it is a bag or dust cup, is not timely replaced or emptied. Because all the dirt store here and the wet food particles support microbial growth to cause the unwanted smell.

Smell From Filter

The filter is a place to screen the dirt to release cleaner air inside the home. If the filter is dirty, an odd smell may produce.

Keep the filter clean. Wash the filter with warm clean water. An alkaline soda or other detergents may be used, however, take care of any restriction mentioned in the User Guide.

Presence of Blockages

The presence of blockage anywhere in the hose or vacuum tool may be a reason for releasing smelly air. Unscrew and separate the vacuum parts to find the blockage. You can soak the parts made by plastic overnight in soapy warm water. However, be aware of the part materials that are sensitive to water. Follow the User Guide attached with your machine.

3. Burning Smell from the Vacuum Cleaner

Normally, the vacuum cleaner runs at room temperature which feels the machine slightly warmer than the room temperature. But there are many causes of producing a burning smell. You must take immediate action to prevent it, otherwise, the device may seriously be damaged. Here are some important tips to follow in such situations.

Turn Off the Vacuum Cleaner as Soon as Possible

When you start to feel the high vacuum temperature and get a burning smell, turn off the switch immediately to avoid further danger.

Faulty Power Supply Socket and Cord

Carefully check the power point, socket and connecting cord. The faulty power supply system may raise the heat of the vacuum. If you notice any smoke near the socket, take away the machine from the socket and replace it.

Overfilled Dirt Container or Blocked Filter

If there is no space into the dust cup/bag or if the filter is blocked, this poses high pressure on the motor causing heat up the device. So, keep the container and filter clean or replace them in time.

Jammed Drive Belt or Rotary Brush

In the case of upright vacuums, the drive belt and rotary brush may get jammed and produce a burning smell. Remove the jam from the drive belt or brush to fix the problem. If the belt is torn or defective, better to replace it.

4. The Vacuum Cleaner is not Sucking

The performance of a vacuum cleaner mostly depends on its sucking performance. But there are several causes for the low suction of a vacuum. Here are a few common causes and tips to solve the low suction problem.

Overfilled Bag/Container

If you notice the low suction, first check the bag or dust container. The overfilled container causes reduced suction in the vacuum. Practice to empty the dirt container of the Cordless Vacuums before overfilling or replace the bag of the bagged vacuums.

Blocked Filters

During vacuuming the air and dirt are flown through the vacuum hose. For smooth performance, the air should pass through the filter freely. If the filter is not clean, it reduces the suction. So, clean the filter regularly. You can wash gently in soda water. If the suction is still low, replace the filter.

Presence of Blockages

Formation of blockage inside the vacuum head or hose or filter hinders the free air flowing, hence, reduces the suction. Find and clean the blockages. The plastic parts of the vacuum can be soaked into warm soap water for better cleaning.

Airflow Leakage

Leakage of air is a crucial cause for low suction of the vacuum. Check the joints like the vacuum base and hose pipe. Also, look for any holes in your vacuum hose. In such a case you need to replace the hose pipe.

Normally the corded vacuum cleaners consist of bigger parts and the individual parts require timely maintenance. On the other hand, parts of cordless vacuum cleaners are smaller in size and compact in design. Hence, the cordless vacuum is less troublesome than the corded one.
